About
Welcome to GridWatch where our mission is “connecting the energy dots.” We hope you will make yourself at home here…and enjoy your stay. You can follow us on twitter or even send us some fan mail.
What is GridWatch?
GridWatch has been developed (and is still under construction, so please disregard any scaffolding and paint buckets you might find) to provide individuals and businesses with cool tools and practical information that will help them make decisions regarding energy and the power grid.
With a special focus on the electric power grid, we also keep readers up-to-date on the latest happenings, topics, issues and opportunities related to the broader energy spectrum as well.
Current Projects
So far, two projects (both are still in beta) have been released on GridWatch:
- GridMap. Ever wonder where the nearest power plants are in your area, or somewhere else? We’ve got you covered. Here at GridWatch, we’re busily geolocating every major power generation plant in the U.S. and plotting them on a searchable map we’re creatively calling “GridMap.” This tool makes it easy to quickly locate solar installations, wind farms, coal plants, and more! To find a power plant, simply type in a zip code, select a search radius, and hit “Search.”
- Energy Clock. Ever wondered what the current energy consumption in the U.S. was? Look no further! GridWatch presents the Real-time Energy Clock widget. You can see it in action here. This widget keeps track of the current cumulative electricity consumption in the U.S. Each number displayed on the counter represents the amount of electricity consumed in Gigawatt Hours since the beginning of 2010.
Who is GridWatch?
As the developers of GridWatch, our backgrounds are in business, engineering, land management, web design and development. Accordingly, we’re able to analyze things from different perspectives, which gives us an edge when we’re weeding through the mountains of information in cyberspace to uncover that which we think will be most valuable to you, our readers.
We welcome your input, and look forward to hearing from you.
